I tried one of those and it eventually ruined the edges of my decent knives.
Best bet by far is a double sided diamond stone. It needs to be good quality though (Eze-Lap make good ones).
With a little practice your knives will be razor sharp.
Also great for chisels, plane blades etc. No oil required so very clean to use in the kitchen.
