I have my doubts about the traffic impact of matches as the roads around Griffin Park never seem too badly affected on matchdays, and the new ground is (relatively) better located for public transport. With CPZ's etc. there's very little incentive for supporters to drive to matches. To me the traffic impact will more be as a result of supporters crossing roads and such like, I know the intention is to open up the tunnel link to Kew Bridge station etc., but to me there will still be issues with large groups crossing the roads etc. To be fair Darlington aren't really a good comparison as the new stadium came about when the club was the 'plaything' of convicted criminal George Reynolds, and the club spent most of its life playing in what is now League 2. Supposedly the 10,000 limit was due to potential traffic issues. As Sam says what became of Darlington is a depressing tale, and whilst I don't envisage the same becoming of Brentford nor am I convinced by the whole change in approach at management level etc., which in my view is only gamble that Benham is going to severely regret. |
