Whilst wishing Brentford FC well, as a Chiswick Resident it is hard not wonder how the local roads and public transport system will cope if and when 20,000 people turn up at the Stadium. The road system is already struggling to cope with the present level of "normal" traffic and I remain to be convinced that a proper match day would not result in grid-lock for much of West London. The recent weekend closure of Chiswick Bridge has shown residents what they can expect when those not familiar with the area and travelling from the East and South converge on Thames Road and Hartington Road. Darlington FC stands as a dreadful warning to Brentford FC. Although Darlington occupies a 25,000 seater opened in 2003 attendances have never exceeded the 11,600 at the very first match. The Stadium is now limited to a capacity of 10,000 because of local planning regulations. I wonder why those restrictions were imposed by the local burghers? There is more that could be written about Darlington FC (which went into administration in 2009) but frankly it is all just to depressing. |
