Introducimg adult guineau pigs for the first time can be tricky. They should be introduced outside the cage in a safe, enclosed space that is new to both guinea pigs. Have a towel to hand in case there is a fight and you need to catch one quickly. They may ignore each another or be very active and vocal as they establish a relationship. They should be observed closely for about three hours. If they don't settle down within this time, it is likely that they will not be safe in the same cage. Even if they seem OK, keep an eye on them for a while until you are sure that they will manage to live together. Bear in mind that if you introduce a much younger guinea pig to the existing pet, you will have the same problem when the older one dies, so it might be an idea to get one that is close in age. Good luck. |
