First came 19 of the Dunkirk ‘Little Ships’, heading down the Thames en route to 75th anniversary events next week marking their role in the allied evacuation of 1940 when over 338,000 British soldiers trapped on the beaches in northern France were rescued by a fleet of small boats. They left the Royal Dock in east London this morning (Sunday) en route for Ramsgate where some 55 boats will set off again across the Channel.
