I would (and indeed) have employed a certified contractor to do just this. However if you are determined to do this yourself the Hounslow Council website says; "The City of London operates a hazardous waste collection service on behalf of London boroughs, providing it is wrapped and sealed in heavy duty plastic - please see its website for more details. Residents can also take their waste to the West London Waste Site at Victoria Road, South Ruislip, HA4 0YS providing it is double wrapped and sealed in heavy duty plastic. If you intend to transport asbestos cement waste in your own vehicle, you do not need to be a registered carrier provided that it is your own waste. However, you should take the following steps to ensure that asbestos does not contaminate your car: ◾Spray sheets of asbestos cement with water. ◾Double wrap or double bag the asbestos cement with heavy duty polythene. ◾Ensure the wrapping is secured with tape. ◾Make sure vehicle occupants do not have access to the asbestos waste." Not sure how up to date this advice is. You could always ring the helpline for more information 020 8583 5555. |
