This really isn't that difficult. Someone may wish to register a protest vote at a local level and therefore vote UKIP (or some other bunch of equally misguided loons) but on national level casting your vote for them would either be wasted, or allow in Labour, who, ideologically nowadays are about as far away from UKIP as it's possible to get. So for an MP if the choice was Labour or Conservative, with UKIP not standing a chance of winning, you'd probably vote Conservative as they were the party that were offering an in/out referendum on Europe. Reasonably simple really. |
