That's right - when in doubt blame a politician. "Both Labour and Conservative governments have miss managed our hard earned money" Simply not true. The state pension scheme currently in place runs on the "hand to mouth basis". Each working generation has paid the pensions of those who are retired. There is no separately invested state fund for politicians to mismanage. As the demographic time-bomb of an aging population emerged politicians of all colours have taken action only to be abused from all sides - teachers, firemen, rail workers and police officers to name but a few of the groups to recently claim that being asked to pay more for less is unfair. There are a number of ways to save and provide some security for yourself in old age. Pension schemes are just one highly tax-efficient option. The truth is that most people have not invested for their old age or have put aside far too little. The situation is particularly acute for women (with career breaks), carers and those on low pay. |
