All employed people will contribute to a pension scheme other than the state scheme. The necessary legislation has been passed by the last Government and the schemes have been rolled out over the last couple of years. I am sitting next to a person who started there employment on a zero hour contract, which was recently change to a 40 hour contract, they received a letter from their company about joining a pension scheme, but they cannot join until they have completed a year on their present contract. But there was also another weird paragraph in the letter about how long you intend to stay with the company. Allegedly, this makes a difference if you can join the scheme on not. So it looks as though all the legislation in the world wont stop some employers from finding loopholes in it. The must of been enough people born in the early 1940s paying nation Insurance as there was no shortage of employment through out the Fifties and Sixties to pay for a decent state pension, all I can say is both Labour and Conservative governments have miss managed our hard earned money, and got the current state pension in the state it is. Lets face it the word "Politics" really is a filthy word |
