No, Vanessa, not a god but an electoral system that is not fit for purpose.  I no more agree with Farage or his policies than you do but given the considerable support he has among certain sections of the public he and UKIP  deserve representation in parliament.

Now more than ever we need a system of proportional representation.  This would be the best way of re-engaging with the large numbers of people who feel disconnected from British politics.  It would put an end to tactical voting.  It would at least partially restore the Labour party in Scotland.  It would give us all parliamentarians we actually want to represent us.

It used to be argued that first-past-the-post provided stable politics but looking at the last two election results, this is no longer the case.  Several commentators from various parts of the political spectrum are now advocating electoral reform.  I hope it happens and soon.
