Yes, someone told me it gives them instant and fatal diabetes and once the liver packs up as it almost always does there is no hope. Why oh why is this totally unnecessary ingredient which is only produced to provide companies with another revenue stream not banned? And before I get inundated with emails about how you can't ban everything, no you can't but reasonably informed dog owners know about onions, chocolate etc but the kinds of things xylitol is in are easily discarded in parks, easily picked up by even the best trained dogs and is almost always fatal. It doesn't sound like Barney had that problem, thank goodness or he would probably not be with us as he thankfully is now, but to my mind something so lethal to our dogs - and there are millions of dog-lovers in the UK - has no place in any food.
