I've said this before but it still bothers me. I took my voting registration form into the polling station this morning. They marked me off on the register and then gave me a ballot slip, carefully writing down my voter registration number against the ballot slip number on their form. Effectively, making a record of my voter number against my ballot slip. Thus creating a record of that ballot slip against my name and address. I asked the officer if he was marking my personal details against the ballot slip number and he said "No, that's not the way it works". But I pointed out to him that this was precisely what he had just done. I know they say "ah but we would never use that information, we do not create any structured records of voters' details against ballow slips". In which case, I would much rather they simply didn't do it. The problem is I don't trust them. |
