Why is it that rent control that works practically all over the world for privately rented properties is deemed a no-no here? With the latest estimate that you need to be earning a salary of £77,000 p.a. to be able to afford to buy and that's with a 10% deposit, something has to be done, and quickly, to help people get a truly affordable roof over their heads.
