This came up at the recent hustings event. She said she had lobbied strongly and successfully for reduced cuts to local emergency service during the consultation period for the draft Shaping a Healthier Future plan. The draft had significantly greater cuts in A&E provision in north west London. She said that there was a lot of scaremongering about Charing Cross Hospital. The old building is deemed by the NHS to be 'not fit for purpose' and has to go. The new building will be complete and operational before the old hospital closes. Can you explain to me what the alternatives are to Shaping a Healthy Future? This is a plan devised by health professionals not politicians. It has to be done within the constraints of the budget given to them. The unpalatable aspects of the plan could be avoided if the budget for health care was increased further but all the electable parties seem to be making more or less identical commitments on the amount of financing to the NHS. If you are going to scrap Shaping a Healthier Future but not offer the NHS extra funding are you not just saying politicians rather than clinicians should determine how the health services limited budget should be allocated? |
