The quantitative argument is also a bit dubious as it assumes that the Piccadilly line is operating to timetable which it doesn't. I'd say only about half the trains are travelling at anywhere near full speed eastbound into Turnham Green in the morning. A significant proportion are held just outside Acton Town and many trundle through Turnham Green at walking pace. The regularity of trains was reduced to artificially boost reliability a few years ago according to CCF. If we assume no signal improvements for the next decade and increasing numbers of passengers an ever higher proportion of trains are going to be unable to reach full speed between Acton and Hammersmith. If they can't there is no disbenefit of them stopping at Turnham Green. |
