This demonstrates pretty clearly the danger of using a purely quantitative approach in these matters. The presumed benefit to the greater number of people who get to sail through Turnham Green if there is no stop is to diffuse to be of any real value. They wouldn't really notice the extra stop. For the people who would benefit on the other hand, while it would be a stretch to call the introduction of a stop potentially life-changing, it would make a noticeable difference to their daily routine. Looked at in this way i.e. the practical impact on the lives of tube users, the cost-benefit is stacked very heavily in favour of Turnham Green. |
