Not voted since I was 22 Pete and absolutely no intention of doing so this time either. And to pick up on your point that may well be connected to my days working in local authorities - I find it laughable how prospective MP's make so many pledges and promises when the reality is the relevant statutory legislation makes such pledges/promises completely unrealistic. Not meaning to single out a particular party for criticism, but prior to the last election the Conservative planning manifesto was all about localism and also about how if elected they'd take a tough line on planning enforcement - roll on 5 years and the Government has relaxed planning controls left, right and centre so that some developments don't require planning permission (thereby not giving local residents any say) and the subject of planning enforcement now takes up a single sentence within the national planning policy framework. Each to their own, but politics certainly isn't for me. |
