"Boris Johnson forced TfL to accept that a stop should eventually be introduced because it was part of his 2012 manifesto commitments" I don't think you can assume it was Boris wot done it. Earlier posts from 2014 in this thread refer to some of TfL's longer term planning options. Once the impact of Crossrail is known, and District line re-signalling permits a higher frequency service, TfL appeared to be considering "re-balancing" the District line and this could involve removing the Ealing branch of the District line, putting a higher frequency service on the Richmond branch, then a Piccadilly line stop at Turnham Green would be required to maintain a link between Chiswick and Ealing. So is it entirely possible that TfL plan to introduce all day stopping at Turnham Green because of overall network capacity reasons, not because of complaints in Chiswick. Of course, politicians will always claim credit for things that would have happened anyway. The test of this will be if the timetable for a stop at Turnham Green is determined by engineering rather than politicians. In other words, a timetable based upon understanding the impact of Crossrail, District line re-signalling and new trains and signalling on the Piccadilly line, meaning mid 2020s before all day stopping at Turnham Green. There is some informed comment about Turnham Green stopping here: http://www.londonreconnections.com/2014/tfl-confirm-turnham-green-services-piccadilly-line-upgrade/ |
