"TfL are already considering a queueing system and we are well below what the ultimate peak usage is likely to be. The station will also be the starting point for people in Chiswick to link up with Crossrail." Not sure about the latter (there's no interchange, the easiest way to Crossrail is going to be District Line to Ealing), but just last week the first five car Overground trains started running, so each of those will be 20% more people soon. Add in the increased capacity of the new seatless District trains (even at the existing frequency we're stuck with) and the lack of any sensible plan at Gunnersbury looks like dereliction of duty by TfL. As for a bus to Turnham Green, the idea's good, but at peak times people won't use it due to road congestion making it much slower than staying on the train, nor will it help people arriving at Gunnersbury from the Richmond direction or the Overground. Acton Town might be a better bet due to the Piccadilly Line, the shorter distance and likely less traffic on the Bollo Lane approach. Sky or someone could run Gunnersbury-CBP-Acton Town-Osterley, I suppose. There isn't going to be a Piccadilly stop at Turnham Green until long after Gunnersbury is having to be exit only in peak times, at this rate. The only realistic solution is a new entrance and second platform on one of the nearly empty BSi car parks. |
