| I'm really puzzled now, as I'm sure we sealed and addressed all the envelopes we delivered. Maybe Mr Watson has indeed received a tasteless hoax, so for the avoidance of doubt, and for the benefit of other readers who might be wondering what this letter was all about, here's the text of it: "Marie Anderson, Bedford Park, Chiswick W4 "Dear Neighbour, "My name is Marie and I live here in Bedford Park with my husband and our three year old daughter. As your neighbour, I wanted to share why, after voting Lib Dem at the last election, I’ve decided to vote Labour, for Dr Rupa Huq, on May 7th. Like many of us, I have been a Lib Dem voter for many years. But I’ve become so frustrated with the Lib Dems as I’ve watched the Coalition slash budgets and put our NHS, our schools and our local services under intolerable pressure. Then the local Lib Dems ask us to sign petitions against local government cuts their own party were responsible for in government. I feel so let down. As a parent, I want to make sure that my daughter and her generation have a bright future ahead of them. Sadly, under the Tory-Lib Dem coalition I have felt more and more worried about that future: • We lost our closest local A&E at Hammersmith Hospital, and Central Middlesex A&E • Charing Cross & Ealing A&Es still under threat; local waiting times are worst in the country • Our children pay university tuition fees of £9,000 a year despite Lib Dem promises • Our schools are staffed with more unqualified teachers • Our local council has almost 60% less funding this year, leaving councillors with heart-breaking choices over local services, and £30 million more savings still to make. "For me, voting Labour is about creating a better future for my daughter: a strong NHS to look after her health, a great education, a house of her own. • An NHS with 30,000 more doctors, nurses and midwives, and 1-2-1 midwife care • Standards raised in schools with every permanent teacher a fully qualified one • A university education where fees will be cut from £9,000 to £6,000 • A Britain with 200,000 homes built each year by 2020 to help first time buyers and renters "I’ve written this letter to you because in our area, it really does matter who you vote for. Only Labour can beat the Conservatives here. I’m voting Rupa Huq, as she is a strong, passionate, local voice for our constituency, fighting for our NHS, our schools and our children’s futures. So please join me and vote for Rupa Huq to become our local Labour MP on May 7th. Best wishes, Marie Anderson" |
