Alaskan Malamute, Rocky survived after falling 2359 feet off the top of a cliff face in Skye by landing on a sheep.

German tourist, Andre Bolouri thought that he would never see his dog again after watching him take the dive.  The dog had become agitated by sheep and Andre had put him on the lead in order to take a photo of him.  The lead had been gripped between Andre’s knees while he focused the camera but the dog just shot off and disappeared.

Andre made his descent but his dog Rocky was nowhere to be seen.  He had almost given up hope but, with the aid of locals, he continued his search.  After three days Rocky was found in a ditch trapped under a sheep.  The dog was dehydrated but none the worst for his fall. The sheep was found dead lying beside a rock which led the rescuers to believe that it had broken Rocky’s fall.

Andre Bolouri who is an artistic director from Berlin had rescued his pet from a shelter two years before and was so delighted to be reunited with his companion that he made a generous donation to a charity for teen-agers in Staffin.  The young German remains grateful to the residents of Skye who gave him the strength and support to continue searching for his dog.
