Hi Anne - tangentially you make a good point. This clip is unlikely to sway the voting intentions of any committed party supporter. As an American politician once said in a slightly different context "he may be a God-damned SOB but he is our God-damned SOB." At a human level and as a councillor colleague I can only feel extremely sorry for her. Most of us have experienced similar public "brain fades" but vanishingly few of us have had a video-clip of this moment splashed across Cyber Space. As she admitted at the recent Chiswick hustings if she was lucky enough to be elected on 7th May she would be a near invisible back bencher with little early prospect of even a junior ministerial post. She would therefore only have to cope with the intellectually undemanding task of following her colleagues through the division lobbies. I think most of us could manage that! On the plus side it has been suggested to me that even a superficial knowledge of her party's manifesto commitments might actually be a handicap to her. But I will leave that for others to judge. |
