Seedling was not overfaced. It was a decent horse who had won 3 races in a row before running at Cheltenham. It was 9/1 for the Aintree race, so certainly not a no hoper. This was a standard hurdle race, not a "novice race for Grand National hurdlers." There is no such thing as a Grand National hurdle. The Grand National is a long distance Chase race. Jump horses at the top stables are treated incredibly well and have largely enjoyable lives. Top owners such as Clive Smith (Kauto Star, Master Minded, etc), Andy Stewart (Big Buck's, etc), John Hales (One Man, National winner Neptune Collonges, Azeryuiop, etc) look after their horses extremely well in retirement. Many of these horses live to a very good age in fantastic surroundings. |
