I finally closed my account with HSBC a few weeks ago, having been with them from the time when my Midland Bank account, opened in the early 60s, eventually became an HSBC account. I decided after many years that they had no interest in me as I didn't have millions invested with them and wasn't running a business with shares in Switzerland or the Cayman Islands. The interest on my current account (always in credit) had gone from insultingly small to zero and they made no effort whatsoever to encourage my custom. I'm happy with the bank I moved to a couple of years ago, which is much more customer pro-active, and when I finally officially closed my HSBC account, they was no effort made to persuade me to stay or express regret that I might be going. I know I'm only one individual with a very modest income, but there must be millions like me, and HSBC treats them with contempt. Not a good approach to business, it seems to me. |
