A cold-water wash in NZ is, as you suggest, straight from the cold tap. In some parts that could be quite cool. Here, in the UK, I always thought 'cold-water' wash referred to 30 degrees. The enzymes in a NZ cold wash would need to be specifically selected to work at far less than 30 - hence the need for cold water Surf etc. The advertising on UK washing powders suggest that they can work as well at 30 as warmer temperatures - if I recall/understand correctly. |
