See previous posts on this subject. Crime obviously varies from area to area as does the population - there are far more people passing Sainsburys in Chiswick than a village in the Cotswolds, therefore more who might, as happened, opportunistically take a dog left unattended. Happens all the time. A long dog was taken from there last year, eventaully found wandering round Shepherds Bush Green, thankfully still in one piece. A Bichon Frise was taken from outside a shop before that and that is just theones reported on this site. If you look at the previous threads on this, you can see stats that show that 53% of pets reported stolen were left unattended in gardens, never mind outside shops. The worst area for dog theft is the North East but it happens a lot here too. As long as people keep buying dogs from Gumtree and the like, dogs will be stolen. |
