From Private Eye this week. "As we noted back in 2012, it was ironic for Hounslow, a London borough with one of the largest Sikh populations in the capital, to have made Richard Gruet it's £106,000-a-year head of legal. Back in 2003 an employment tribunal found that while in a senior legal post at Camden council he had bullied and harassed a junior colleague and discriminated against him on racial grounds. The victim, Rajwinder Singh, a Sikh, was awarded £25,000 for constructive dismissal. In January this year Gruet co-hosted an "equality and human rights training" session for Hounslow councillors. A number of members stayed away because they felt there wasn't a lot of point to anti-racism training if it was hosted by a racist. After the session Independent councillor and anti-racism campaigner Gurpal Virdi made this point in an e-mail to council leader Steve Curran and "head of equalities and human rights" Celia Golden. We now learn Gruet will quietly take early retirement on a full pension at the end of March. Ain't life grand?'
