Like it or not Uber must be really hammering the taxi trade in central London both the touts and black cabs. Its key advantage is that when you are finishing your meal or drink you can order a cab and it'll be there in minutes and you can wait inside until it arrives. No wandering about trying to hail down a cab which always seem to be missing when you really need to get home. Even with surge pricing they are generally substantially cheaper than black cabs. Uber doesn't really work when you are being picked up from a station so it is one area in which black cabs still have an advantage. That seems to me the more obvious reason why Turnham Green is overrun at the moment. A non-taxi pick up point needs to be designated for safety reasons. |
