Brian/Richard, you raise an interesting point. My info was based on a curved ball from a barman who I overheard recently tell a customer he could not serve their drink as the pub didn't have a 'cocktail licence'. I had no issue with this as I know that spirits must be served in legal proscribed measures so felt his answer accurate. It also seemed to me that very few cocktails use exactly the same quantities of the various spirit ingredients. However trawling through licencing web sites yesterday (so much legal jargon my eyes glazed over after a few mins) any fully licenced pub/restaurant it seems can serve cocktails if they wish. The barman in question was I think being lazy and didn't want the hassle of mixing a highly complicated, time consuming drink. One lives and learns. 'Moscow Mules' all round!!!! |
