Very little of the money raised from fines on Chiswick High Road is likely to be spent on improving Chiswick High Road. This is because Hounslow Council is obliged to fund discretionary fares across London such as the Freedom Pass. The total cost of doing this in the current year was 322 million which assuming this is equally divided between boroughs would mean that Hounslow would have to pay 10 million even with Chiswick High Road's very generous 1.36mn contribution. This just about eats up the surplus from parking tickets and bus lane fines.

Ironically the pot hole you refer to was more than likely caused by heavy bus traffic at this spot.
