Even though I bought my wife an iPad, I genuinely didn't "get" them until work bought me one about a year after she got hers. Now I wouldn't be without it.

But regarding wearable tech, at the moment it is a very niche market. For example I have a pair of these:

They are great fun, and very good if you are interested in your skiing/boarding stats, but outside a small subset of a niche market, no practical use whatsoever. I also have a pair of these on order, having chipped in development cash when the product was at pre-prototype stage two years ago:

But again, it's aimed at a very niche market, which is the issue with wearable tech so far. Google Glass was meant to address this, but was a) insanely expensive b) I don't think the platform was robust enough and c) didn't have the "killer app" to make it indispensable daily wear. Until someone comes up with that wearable tech will only appeal to the early adopting tech heads and/or specific uses.
