Larry, I am just following the logic of your argument. Our welfare system has some holes in it, and I have seen a few people who it has failed through my work, but most people in real need will be housed and fed by it. The only possible excuse for criminal actions by the poor is imminent starvation, and that is extremely rare in this country. Saying that "Economic and social disparity lend themselves to some forms of crime" is excusing criminal behaviour, which in most cases is the result of greed just as much as that of the white-collar criminal. |
