Richard, Y ou are misunderstanding my point entirely. Economic and social disparity lend themselves to some forms of crime. And, as i see it, understandably. If we, as a culture, continue to maintain the illusion that wealth and shiny objects lead to happiness and contentment then those that are unhappy and dissatisfied will seek to do whatever it takes in order to gain that elusive happiness or contentment. If people are continually paid low wages and forced to pay more and more just to survive then, in some cases, the imperative to do what it takes to survive takes priority for those that feel the burden. I don't condone any of these actions but I do feel that it must be acknowledged We, as a society, have a tendency toward punishing some of the more vulnerable members. We want to point the finger from our leafy suburban surroundings at those that are the supposed cause of the problem. We are part of the very system that gives birth to crime, to drug addiction, to sexism, racism...we must all take some responsibility rather than just blame brown people or foreigners. |
