When I moved to London in 1973 the high rise tower above Gunnersbury Station was already built. I don't know of any village with a tower like that.

The mansion blocks around Turnham Green were, I suspect, built in the 1930's, and the old factories (now residential) along from the town hall date from an earlier period.

I have no problem with the term "village like" being applied to Grove Park. However, Chiswick's huge bus repair centre - now Chiswick Park, the bus garage to the east, and many other features are what you would have expected in an inner city 20th Century part of London.
