Sorry to be late to this thread. If not too late, my suggestion is to see the original Horses of Saint Mark / Triumphal Quadriga. They are within St Mark's Basilica, fairly close to the copies you can see from outside. Then walk out of the room where they are kept and walk towards St Mark's Square, turn left on to the balcony towards the lagoon, and then look back at the Square. You can sense all of the people milling around but all you can see is the tops of buildings and statues close by and across the lagoon. Easy to imagine yourself back in ancient times, even more than usual in Venice. |
