Vanessa, it isn't cobblers at all. If, like the majority of Civil Servants you were contracted out then you paid a lower rate of contributions. Please read the link that I posted. Your contacted out pension is meant to cover the difference between the full state pension and the reduced rate paid as a result of contracting out. My wife has just retired from local government service and we had this 'debate' with The Pension Service (slightly reduced State pension, slightly increased LGPS pension) who sent us a long tabulated calculation to prove just that. The net result is that she is.....drum roll......£0.16 per week better off from contracting out when the two sums are combined. |
