You will return, I promise you, so do not try and fit too much in to a brief stay. I loved watching the super efficient garbage collection in the early morning - by boat of course, and the construction tradesmen moving building materials in rusty old hulks. Invest in Peter Ackroyd's 'Venice; Pure City' and John Berendt's 'City of Falling Angels'. La Serenissima will get under your skin and these books will allow you to begin to return the favour. |
