The RSPCA say clearly on their site that Halal CAN cause unnecessary suffering, not DOES.

Cutting the animal's throat with a smooth ultra sharp knife theoretically causes instant loss of blood pressure and unconsciousness followed by death.

I know that there are studies that show there is a pain signal while the animal is unconscious that say it is still suffering, but is it aware it is suffering?.

To answer your question - from what I have read I would choose not to be stunned - because who knows how much that hurts? - and what if the operator botches the stunning?.

The RSPCA and RCVS know damn well that many slaughterhouses can't even stun properly much of the time, yet they don't raise a petition about this, or carting animals for hours to be slaughtered, or allowing  animals to see other animals being killed. And the number of inspectors tasked with making sure things are done properly is another victim of government cuts.
