Living in London I guess you would. There are, however, many parts of the country where a car is a necessity, not a luxury, and the prices faced until the last couple of months of 2014 were crippling. So no, when the fall in prices at the pump is giving people much needed breathing room, now is precisely the wrong time to clobber people.

I am a very very long way from being a socialist, but I would suggest now is the time to close tax avoidance loopholes rather than increase tax on what is for many an essential purchase.
