| Many thanks to you all. I agree with the majority of those who responded to the subject so am reassured. I believe the muddle is about whether "per cent" is taken as what we normally understand it to mean or as merely an item. In the example, 1.6 is 2.7 units less than 4.3: an easy subtraction. But, as so many of you pointed out or implied 1.6 is clearly not 2.7% less than 4.3. Any other thoughts are welcomed. |
