If you saw the front page of the Times over the weekend you would have seen that the killing of animals without stunning first is growing enormously due to campaigning by Muslims who believe wrongly that stunning kills an animal, and their belief is that animals need to have their throats cut and bleed to death while still alive - a terribly cruel and barbarous practice as the animal suffers agony while this is going on.   The RSPCA and the Royal College of Veterinary surgeons both underline the terrible suffering these animals go through and want the government to ban it.  Not only is there no sign of them banning it - DEFRA says it has no intention of doing so as it puts mistaken and superstitious beliefs over the terrible suffering of animals - but there is also no sign of them labelling products as halal or not halal so that those of us who want to avoid eating animals who have suffered so horribly do not know what we are eating.
