I like to think I know a little about Cllr Theo Dennison, and in my opinion he is a hardworking, fair-minded Councillor with a genuine concern for democracy and due process. He is also spending a lot of time trying to fulfil his new role as Lead Member for Community Engagement, a thankless task if ever there was one - though admirable. He's also a nice bloke. Just sayin'. But the way to judge our representatives is to view them in their natural habitat - the Council Chamber at their monthly Civic Centre meetings. Since hardly any of the public attend, you get the chance to see them as they really are, in the bubble of local democracy, where, sadly, there are a lot of party-based exchanges. But you voted for them. When I say 'you', I mean 'only 30.5% of you' (and that was the highest, locally, in Chiswick Riverside), so at least 69% of voters didn't turn out, which means 2/3rds of registered voters got what other people voted for. |
