Chris All old style dimmers waste electricity by passing a controlled 'leak' via a rheostat which simply wasted the current as heat. If you put a consumption meter on a rheostat dimmable lighting circuit it makes not one jot of difference how bright the lights are. If you want to save money with a dimmer it has to be Triac based where the resistor now cuts the light circuit on and off to reduce the total amount of energy flowing through the circuit. |
