Chris

It is not an overnight saving so one that we find hard to swallow

Have a look here

http://www.londonelectricdesign.com/led-savings.php

I popped in the savings for my house based on 10 bulbs and 3 hours of use 7 days a week (less than in reality) and 1 year = £50 and 5 years = £250

the 10 bulbs were roughly £22 each

I was an early adopter of LEDS and always use them in my house before I put them into cients - the no brand cheaper LEDs do blow and slightly change their colour render over time. The £20+ phillips ones have so far not needed replacing.

In flats I have I used to replace the GU10s every 8 months or so  and so far have not replaced the LEDs after 2 years.

Every year the technology gets better.

So I have gradually gone through replacing specific areas as they blow (leds do not particularly like to mix on circuits as GU10s when they go can take other stuff with them!)

Generally I don't like dimmers - some of the more electronic ones are OK but for GU10s (so I understand) they work by omitting part of the power in each cycle (clipping) and get hot - throwing away that power. Not yet caught up on how inefficient LED dimmers are.

James
