Talk about none so blind, it's not just this latest instance of inability or unwillingness of local members to act on behalf of their constituents, they seem to want to operate some sort of pick and mix attitude to what they feel inclined to get involved in. The leadership of the council too know exactly what is going on and they are also conspicuous by their silence as is the so-called 'Lead Member' involved, that malaise seems to spread throughout the group. I don't disagree with the principle of everyone having the chance to stand for election, but you raised the subject of allowances which frankly are neither here nor there, there is no way of checking if those allowances are actually earned in any way, there are no targets or appraisals - I suspect that if there were many would be found wanting. The principle of democracy isn't the issue here, it is getting priorities right, doing what you are elected to do to the best of your ability, and listening to the electorate and working with them. Something we've seen precious little of around here. |
