Quite agree with you Dan just want to add that there is a process to preserve those buildings worth preserving. There are other buildings on the High Road which do have "special architectural or historic interest" e.g. The Old Packhorse. This building is grade 2 listed - and quite rightly. http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1240781 The fact it is Grade 2 listed makes it pretty difficult for the owners to consider any plans for re-development so they will have to make the best of their asset as a pub / restaurant. Each building is listed or not listed on its merits and The Packhorse and Talbot does not have the qualities of "special architectural or historic interest" so it is unfair on the owners to force them to preserve something that only an inexpert opinion values. |
