Gunnersbury is owned by National Rail, not TfL. IMO the only long term solution would be to reinstate a platform by replacing one of the car parks. Anything else is just fiddling around the edges as the station is fundamentally limited by the single platform and stairway. Even an additional entrance at the Wellesley Road end wouldn't do much for congestion as the vast majority of people use the CHR end. There was a story going around that the new owners of Chiswick Tower were looking at redeveloping the car parks into residential property - this wouldn't surprise me given the car parks are hardly used and the price of residential property in the area. If a condition of the development was to reinstate a platform, then it would be worthwhile, I think. Gunnersbury used to have three platforms but the car parks have reduced this to one. It is a ridiculous use of space given 6.5M people use the station and a tiny number use the car parks. The numbers using the station will only increase with the new developments in the area, and the proposed Overground interchange with Crossrail (and possibly HS2) at Old Oak Common. |
