If you have, there's a vets surgery in Shepherds bush that needs it.My dog is suffering with a mild ear infection at the moment. So like a good conscientious owner I took him to the vet hoping to alleviate the problem, and stop him walking around shaking his head in pain.

The vet took a look at the ear canal and diagnosed 'gunk'in the ear.She said it would be best to take an ear swab to see what the infection was as they no longer just prescribed antibiotics on the off chance they got the right one, as a lot of bugs were now resistant to antibiotics.

She then asked when my dog was last wormed, I said I wasn't sure so she gave him ONE worming tablet. So, we are now awaiting the results of the ear swab before specific treatment can begin. With that, we left the surgery and went to the outer office to make payment. We had been in the surgery for exactly 7 minutes and received one worming tablet.

In the outer office the receptionist tinkled with a few keys on her keyboard and then pronounced"thank you sir, that will be one hundred and seventy seven pounds, 61 pence .Thank you"£177.61 "are you bloody joking"I was stunned and had to get outside for some air.Back in the car I looked at the invoice.ONE worming tablet, £10.70.Ear swab, £129.41.Yes that's right, £129.41 for a bloody ear swap . Outrageous.Plus of course, the consultation charge of £37.50.Christ on a stick.Where do these people get these prices from ?

My dog has been going to this vets for the past 8 years, and my previous dog was under them for 15 years, but I'm afraid they won't be getting any more of my hard earned. If there are any vets reading this, can you tell me what a lab would charge for analyzing and reporting on an ear swab.Or maybe if a doctor could give an idea of what the human equivalent would be charged, I'd be interested

If anyone else has any recommendations regarding reasonably priced vets that offer good treatmen, please let me know.Thank you, and pass the eye patch
