The green wall could have worked - with the correct selection of plants, but it would have needed maintenance, probably with access from trackside, which was obviously hard for TfL. Having organised the Edible High Roads (fruit trees and herbal boxes outside lots of shops) over the last couple of years, we have a pretty good idea of which local businesses would support us and approximately how much we could expect. TfL said they might help us with services in kind, but they had no money - guess that £30million + £3.5million a year maintenance they are offering for the Garden Bridge is using up a lot of our fare increases... We had hoped for a big starter push from the S106 money, partly to show some enthusiasm from the authorities for the project to inspire us to go raise the rest. But heyho, at least we don't have to spend the next year fundraising and organising something that really TfL and the council should be doing themselves. We'll be mulching the flower beds along the High Road (opp. KFH, Chestertons, Sandeman & Lea, Fosters Bookshop) tomorrow morning if anyone wants to say hi - the ones that we have filled with bulbs, fruit bushes and flowers that the council used to look after. Unless it snows... |
