Paul, the only way the BBCwould know exactly when the property was due to be searched would be if the police informed them - which they did. The BBC is not going to have a helicopter circling around overhead on the offchance that the raid was taking place at that moment. And no, supposedly a JP must be satisfied that there are reasonable grounds that a serious crime has been committed and that the evidence of it remains on the premises, before issuing a warrant. An unsubstantiated claim from 20/30 years ago of a crime supposedly committed elsewhere, without the allegation even being put to the accused, would be stretching it a bit far. And the facts of this case made it super-sensitive, so the police would have to make damn sure they got it right. |
